Los Angeles - Local animal rights activists hoofed it right to the front of the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California to protest the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) Genesis Awards ceremony on Sunday, March 30th. This caused quite the ruckus! Activists could see the paparazzi lined up inside interviewing Wayne Pacelle and other "celebrities" like Villaraigosa (who stayed only a few minutes in order to get his picture taken and hobnob at the VIP pre-award cocktail party.) Villaraigosa has done this same routine before; attending the Genesis VIP party and then sneaking out before the ceremony gets started!
But THIS time Villaraigosa may have had good reason to leave early, due to the raucous interruption by demonstrators who let attendees know in no uncertain terms that he is no friend to the animals. Activists however, were surrounded by a hoard of more than ten security guards who assaulted the activists and pushed them away from the entrance (which caused even MORE of a spectacle!)
Said activists however were undeterred and decided to remain at both driveway entrances for over an hour holding posters and a banner saying "Mayor Villaraigosa, LA's Number 1 Puppy Killer," and handing out leaflets to guests arriving for the show! One of the activists handed out a leaflet to actor James Cromwell and found him quite interested in hearing the truth about how the Mayor of LA treats the lost and homeless animals of this city.
The reason for this protest was that activists heard through a source that Wayne Pacelle, President of HSUS, had decided to give accolades and possibly an award to - of all people - Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa for "helping animals"! What was Pacelle thinking? (We think we know, but more on this later in the post!)
Villaraigosa has been just one more sleazy politician in a long line of mayors who have done absolutely NOTHING for animals. In fact, he has been obstructive on every front as both the humane and activist communities have battled for years to enact tough mandatory spay/neuter legislation. The mayor has failed to rid the Department of Los Angeles Animal Services of incompetent and corrupt managers who, while touting themselves as "no kill," in reality have been slaughtering healthy, treatable animals whose misfortune it is to be imprisoned at one of the six municipal "shelters."
Again we ask, what has Villaraigosa done for animals? Well, he finally signed into law a mandatory spay and neuter bill. . . .WOW! The fact is that the humane community had been clamoring for such an ordinance for a long time and to which Villaraigosa himself turned a decidedly deaf ear during his tenure as an LA City Councilman. At last, the current City Council voted 14 to 1 to institute the ordinance and Villaraigosa is claiming that because he signed this piece of paper, he is now a great advocate for animals! HOW STUPID DOES HE THINK WE ARE?
The truth is that Wayne Pacelle and Antonio Villaraigosa are both "scratching each other's backs" in furtherance of their mutual political ambitions. Both are looking ultimately at the Presidency of the United States! Villaraigosa is courting Hillary Clinton in a bid to be her Vice President should she be elected to the Oval Office or if that fails, to be California's next Governor! Pacelle wants to be elected first to the US House of Representatives and then eventually elected President. Both are willing to buddy up and try to help each others political careers by lying to the public! SHAME ON BOTH OF THEM.
Pacelle, who earns over $500,000.00 per year (yep, this is where YOUR HSUS donations end up!), is now giving illegitimate awards to politicians like Villaraigosa in order to help himself reach his own political ends.
In addition to all this, after the Genesis Awards ceremony was over, activists were told that HSUS had endorsed and praised Wolfgang Puck by placing a huge one page ad in the Genesis Awards magazine two years in a row! It is true that Puck had been serving enlarged livers' of ducks and geese who had been force fed (foie gras,) and "crated" veal calves for years to the accompaniment of regular grass roots protests outside his establishment in Beverly Hills. Puck had for years personally emerged to thumb his nose at the local activists asking him to remove these cruel items from his menu. Because he finally relented in the face of persistent demonstrations and a call for a boycott on all his restaurants, HSUS has now dubbed him a hero!
Well, after years of protests against Puck, activists are thankful that he removed foie gras from his menus and is now only serving "crate-less" veal calves instead of "crated" veal calves for supper; but all the other corpses he continues to serve up on fancy plates to high society may be one reason his newest restaurant is going to be called "CUT." We're not kidding, I wish we were!
In closing, please write the web site Ecorazzi at www.Ecorazzi.com. They quoted Villaraigosa at the Genesis Awards saying that "LA has the lowest kill rate in America." Villaraigosa is disgusting in his attempts to deceive the public and Ecorazzi needs to know. Below is a sample letter. And please let HSUS know how you feel about the "relationship" Villaraigosa and Pacelle have struck in order to help each others political careers.
Dear Ecorazzi:
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa promised to hire a competent and caring General Manager (GM) for the six City shelters and pledged as well, to bring on board Nathan Winograd of No Kill Solutions to consult and implement the protocols, programs, policies, and procedures proven to be saving animals' lives at progressive shelters nationwide. He reneged on both vows.
He instead appointed Ed Boks - a bald-faced liar guilty of malfeasance in three different cities (he was formerly asked to resign in Maricopa County, Arizona and fired in New York City) - because Gary Michelson, a reputed billionaire, offered him multiple millions for a future gubernatorial run in exchange for giving his unemployed pal a job here in Los Angeles.

We urge you to be aware of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and not to fall for his false claims when he displays his famous smile to the media and makes promises to the humane community he never intended to keep.
