STOP THE KILLING CAMPAIGN

LOS ANGELES - About thirty animal rights activists participated in a series of mobile demonstrations on behalf of the Stop The Killing Campaign endeavoring to halt the needless and senseless slaughter of tens of thousands of healthy, lovable and treatable dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, rabbits, and wildlife at the six municipal shelters run by the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services under General Manager Ed Boks. Tens of thousands of animals are systematically murdered each year with little to no attempt made to find adoptive homes - while Ed Boks continues to make false claims about reducing the kill rate and setting Los Angeles on the road to No Kill.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Boks refuses to implement the policies, protocols, and programs of No Kill Solutions' national expert, Nathan Winograd - despite his proven success at other progressive shelters across the country. Ed Boks was voted down by five commission members in New York City (not ONE wanted him to stay there) which led to his contract not being renewed (he was fired!) Boks was also asked to resign in Maricopa County after leaving the shelter system devastated and shelter money depleted. But, Ed Boks managed to land a position in Los Angeles through a multi-billionaire friend who promised Antonio Villaraigosa a hefty re-election campaign donation. So, Tony overlooked several sincere and qualified local candidates for the General Manager position in order to get his mitts on a million-dollar campaign contribution (which, we understand never materialized). Now, we're stuck with a former preacher who likes to play with blogs, booze, babes, and the Bible - all the while killing our City's homeless pets and displaced wildlife.

First up on the protest circuit was the afore-mentioned Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa - now ignominiously dubbed "LA's #1 Puppy Killer." Like the true cowardly and sleazy politician he is, after activists had been chanting and leafleting for approximately five minutes, he darted into his black sedan gas guzzler, along with his bodyguard and driver, and sped away. No matter. The neighbors were given all the facts about him, Ed Boks and the genocide of animals going on in the six City Death Camps under the Boks' regime.

Next up was Robin Kramer - Villaraigosa's Chief of Staff. Activists chanted and brought the neighbors up to date on what is transpiring at the shelters - with mayoral complicity - under the corrupt and incompetent Ed Boks. Activists marched around the block, talking with residents interested in the issues.

The third location was the eight hundred square foot, six hundred and fifty thousand dollar condo - belonging to the infamous Ed Boks and girlfriend Adele Langdon. Activists conducted a spirited demonstration, chanting and letting the neighbors know exactly who and what Boks is and about the tens of thousands of animals he kills every year. The neighbors came out in droves to talk to the activists and get information. Boks suddenly appeared in public, attempting to call a halt to the picket and tell the activists that he was saving lives and has been the Nation's "NO KILL expert for over twenty years!!!" The activists didn't buy it, though. They were able to see through the lies and deceit. Did you know that Boks was a preacher and pastor of Grace Chapel in Phoenix, AZ as recently as June of 1997? His resume states that from 1976 (after he failed to graduate from college) to 1997, he was "Pastor of non-denomination Christian New Testament Church, and that he designed, implemented, and served as administrator and high school teacher of a K-12 private school. That school filed bankruptcy in 1997!!!!
But we digress. . . . . .

After Boks skulked back into the house, he called the LAPD who showed up en masse, but activists continued their informative, energetic, and legal protest.

Boks and the Department don't like being exposed for the unconscionable killers that they are - and they recently teamed up with the skuzzy City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo in a shameful attempt to abridge the freedom of speech and assembly of animal rights activists participating in the Stop The Killing Campaign. Justice prevailed, however. They got nowhere. Soundly defeated in court, they cannot stop activists from continuing to be a proud and effective voice for the animals. Though on the endangered species list, the United States Constitution is still in effect!

When you torture and murder their non-human brothers and sisters, animal rights activists will be there to hold you accountable. That is the message activists are clearly conveying to those who choose to promote and profit from animal abuse.
