STOP THE KILLING MOBILE DEMO WRAP
October 28, 2006

Los Angeles
- A small band of activists (some of whom were brand new faces), gathered on Saturday October 28th to protest the slaughter of tens of thousands of companion animals every year in the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services (LADAS) six municipal shelters (or, as activists prefer to label them, "Death Camps").

First on the agenda was a visit to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa at the mayoral mansion. Along with the familiar chants like "No more shelter lies; no more compromise!" and "Hey, Tony, what do you say? How many animals did you kill today?" activists took him to task for his appointment of Ed Boks to the LADAS General Manager position. Ed was fired in New York City and asked to leave Maricopa County before that, but Villaraigosa selected him over the several local, eminently qualified candidates who were even willing to take a cut in pay to have the job. Of course, Ed Boks was the choice of Gary Michelson - the billionaire (who refuses to neuter his pit bull) and who Villa La Grossa hoped would contribute big bucks to his future gubernatorial campaign. But, hey, we're not alleging that such a consideration influenced hizoner's decision or that he traded thousands of lives for a possible campaign contribution!

Next on the agenda was the Larchmont neighborhood of Field Commander David Diliberto, who was actually sued for sexual harassment by an LADAS female subordinate, and the city forced to pay her over one hundred thousand dollars of YOUR tax dollars! Diliberto is obsessed with female subordinates "particulars" and spends most of his work time pursuing and e-mailing those he finds attractive. If he implemented as many programs to save animals, as the number of female subordinates he has tried to have sex with, Los Angeles would be much farther along the road to No Kill!

Now, Dili-flirto's hood is noted among activists for its rather unfriendly neighbors. The natives weren't quite so restless as usual, but a few had to come out and reveal their true human selfishness, at being so rudely prevented from taking their afternoon siestas. It sure was fun being back in Diliberto's neighborhood, especially after Diliberto, prosecutor Spencer "Hartless" Hart and Judge Mary Strobel, did everything in their power to try and stop activists from protesting in "Dildo's" neighborhood. But, much to their dismay, there is still this document called the California Constitution!

Activists were told that Diliberto forced the city to spend thousands of dollars to "upgrade" his surveillance system, and his rental house now looks like the inside of a Target store! If the city spent as much time getting RID of lousy, inept and egregious employees like Diliberto, as they spend protecting the gross "Commander", the animals would be a lot better off and the city wouldn't have to worry about him being picketed.

Next up was General Manager Ed Boks. As we began the demonstration, one neighbor yelled out to us, "You should be committed!" We answered, "We ARE committed - to ending animal abuse!" Proper social etiquette dictates a two-way volley of conversational exchanges - but, seeing that she had no further pearls of wisdom to contribute at that point, we continued to inform all of Ed's neighbors at the Palazzo that Boks refuses to implement the written, innovative no kill policies, protocols, and programs that are already being used successfully in progressive shelters nationwide. They learned that their hard-earned tax dollars are funding the slaughter of tens of thousands of healthy, treatable, loving, and adoptable animals every single year. Many appeared on their balconies to praise our efforts and promised that they would SHUN Boks the next time they saw him relaxing by the pool (one neighbor told us he sees Boks out by the pool quite a bit!)

Finally, we concluded our day with one last demonstration at the home of Volunteer Coordinator Heidi Huebner. We educated her neighbors about her incompetence which has put the Volunteer Department in a shambles with virtually no grooming, walking, or fostering assistance available for the animals. By the way, did you know that Ed Boks just got the commission to "rubber stamp" paying a woman, Erica Meadows, thirty-five thousand dollars of YOUR tax money, to baby sit Hubner? Yep you heard it right, since Boks refuses to hire a competent full time volunteer coordinator who knows how to run the department, he got the OK from a weak and feeble commission to hire Meadows so that Boks wouldn't have to replace the inept, disorganized and nasty Hubner. Boks and Hubner have become quite close in ways that only a preacher like Boks could get away with; so now Boks is spending more of the animals' money to hire MORE employees, because he simply does not know how to solve the foundational problems of the corrupt and mismanaged LADAS.

As one of the chants used in front of the Mayor's home stated, "We will never back down until you stop the killing", after the protests were over, the activists made a commitment to leaflet and protest Villaraigosa at as many venue's as possible. One of those is coming up next Friday night. Villaraigosa and Jon Stewart are appearing at the Geffen Playhouse in Westwood.

When Villaraigosa failed in his promise to hire No Kill Solutions as consultant a year ago, and instead appointed the fraudulent and despicable liar Ed Boks in the hopes of getting millions of dollars from Gary Michelson, he should have known that ADL-LA would NOT accept this slap in the animals' faces sitting down. As long as Ed Boks is the GM of LADAS, ADL-LA plans on continuing campaigning to STOP THE KILLING. Until an entity like No Kill Solutions is brought on board to locate competent, intelligent and creative administrators and to begin implementing the programs, protocols and policies needed to get LA on the road to No Kill, ADL-LA and others cannot move on to the next task of educating the public about  breeders and pet shops.

Thanks to all the activists who joined in the protests and see you next time.
