Antonio's dogs have a happy home, but LA city "shelter" dogs die terrified and alone!

Antonio Villaraigosa lied to the public in order to get elected. Villaraigosa promised to replace the inept, ineffective and corrupt Guerdon Stuckey of [the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services-LADAS]) , with someone who is competent. Instead, he simply replaced one "bad apple" for another.

Without even doing a background check, Villaraigosa appointed Ed Boks to head up the LADAS municipal shelter system, one of the Nations largest. EVERY YEAR, TENS OF THOUSANDS OF HEALTHY, TREATABLE-LOST, HOMELESS AND FERAL CATS, DOGS, PUPPIES AND KITTENS, RABBITS & WILDLIFE ARE SENSELESSLY AND NEEDLESSLY KILLED IN THE SIX CITY ANIMAL "SHELTERS", VIRTUAL DEATH CAMPS FOR ANIMALS. THIS DOES NOT HAVE TO HAPPEN!

Villaraigosa, a one-time juvenile delinquent still tattooed with the slogan "Born to Raise Hell," entered the UCLA campus as a transfer student from East Los Angeles Community College in 1972. Known then simply as Tony Villar, he was a radical activist for the Chicano community. He before ANYONE should understand activists like Animal Defense League-Los Angeles, who fight for the oppressed, disenfranchised and exploited. [But his power, money and expensive silk suits and paintings he surrounds himself with--including an entroage that would make a movie star shocked--he has forgotten about the oppressed, disenfranchised and the neglect, abuse and death occurring in his very own Department of LA Animal Services (coined DIS Services!!)

Villaraigosa has a lousy track record regarding caring for the animals of this city. Villaraigosa has gone back on pre election promises made to the humane community, which have resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent animals in our city shelters. He is also responsible for the death of LA Zoo elephant Gita. He had promised to send Gita, Ruby and Billy to a sanctuary (at no charge to the taxpayers) where they would have been given room to roam and some happiness after being confined their entire lives. Villaraigosa refused to do this, and noble Gita, died all alone, in pain and misery. Now, instead of keeping his pre election promise to retire Ruby and Billy, he blatantly went back on that promise and it's going to cost not only the tax payers over 40 MILLION dollars, but Ruby and Billy will never be able to truly feel what it's like to be within an environment such as a sanctuary where other PROGRESSIVE ZOO'S have sent their elephants.

Antonio Villaraigosa made promises to the humane community in order to win their votes for his Mayoral election. We voted for him and now he is slapping the humane community in the face by not only failing to keep his promises, but raising his middle finger to the animals sitting in their cages, terrified before being dragged into the kill room, and mercilessly executed while they urinate, defecate and vomit in terror. They are then thrown into a freezer (some while still alive) and taken by garbage truck to a disposal plant in LA to be boiled into fertilizer and pet food. Mayor Villaraigosa-Butcher of Los Angeles
	MAYOR Villaraigosa is responsible for the needless and senseless killing of tens of thousands of healthy, treatable cats, dogs, puppies, kittens, rabbits and wildlife every single year in LA's six-city “shelters.” Because of Villaraigosa's mismanagement and failure to appoint a General Manager who can implement written protocols, programs and policies that are proven to work in other shelters, the six Los Angeles Department of Animal Services (LADAS) shelters, are virtual “Death Camps” for animals.
Imagine yourself either a lost or homeless cat or dog, puppy, kitten, rabbit or even a songbird, impounded inside a cage in a hostile, unstimulating environment, alone and afraid. All you want is a little love and to be adopted into a safe and loving home, or reunited with your guardian. Next thing you know, you are being dragged by a heavy rope to the “KILL” room where you are muzzled, held down against your will, then a needle is plunged into your body; and in complete terror, (many animals either urinate, defecate or vomit from the horror)--you are killed. Then, a city garbage truck comes to take the pile of corpses from huge freezers to a rendering plant where you are ground up and made into fertilizer, food for Salmon fish farms, and even pet food. HOW YOU CAN HELP GET LA ON THE ROAD TO NO KILL! We all must demand that Mayor Villaraigosa appoint individuals to LADAS who have the ability to implement proven methods, which will put LA on the road to humane NO KILL. Under Villaraigosa's current appointee, Ed Boks, LA is NOT EVEN IN THE PROCESSION! ‘ Villaraigosa has a lousy track record regarding caring for the animals of this city. Boks was asked to leave and fired from two previous “shelter” jobs. ‘ Villaraigosa added an individual to the commission of LADAS, not because he is the best commissioner for the job, but to pay back a donor and friend. He then removed the most qualified of all the commissioners Erika Brunson, because she asked too many questions and was demanding accountability of LADAS union employees in regards to animal abuse and neglect at LADAS.
Villaraigosa is stuck in a 1950's mentality, where homeless and lost animals were considered “pests” and city “dog catchers” had a catch and kill mentality. Under Villaraigosa's regime, our city “shelters” are some of the worst in the Nation, even though the union employees are some of the highest paid in the Nation! LADAS is a cesspool of mismanagement and corruption resulting the killing of innocent animals every single day.
‘ Villaraigosa has refused time and time again to appoint local, intelligent, professional and compassionate individuals to be the General Manager and Assistant General Manager. These brilliant lawyers and veterinarians have the ability to implement progressive policies that are proven to increase adoptions and save the taxpayers millions of dollars a year. Instead, Villaraigosa is appointed Ed Boks without a background check into his despicable legacy at not one, but two previous animal shelters! ‘ Villaraigosa is allowing the City Council to move the site of a new “City Shelter” being built in downtown LA, to a less desirable location because city council members have received kick backs and donations from this individual (a furniture store owner)! ‘ Villaraigosa has also teamed up with corrupt City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo, to harass, target and criminally charge legal picketers who are trying to expose the truth and hold our public officials accountable for the corruption and abuse of animals at LADAS. mayor@lacity.org PHONE (213) 978-0600 FAX (213) 978-0750

We had a contact as a liaison who could arrange a meeting. We were told up front that it was a pay to play scenario - we had to make a "contribution" in order for Villagairosa to meet with us to discuss how we could help the animals. The idea of a "fee" did not deter us since we were so desperate to help the animals. Fortunately, we did not arrange a meeting. We did help many animals in other ways. It's now clear that Villagairosa would have gladly taken our money, would have lied, and then would have reneged on whatever he proposed.
DEMAND THIS INCOMPETENT, SLEAZY AND DISGUSTING INDIVIDUAL BE FIRED AND DEMAND THAT NO KILL SOLUTIONS BE HIRED TO IMPLEMENT THE "NO KILL EQUATION" IN LOS ANGELES.
